Searching For the Answers

That may or may not exist…

We all have questions. It’s only human nature to wonder, to think.

Many people turn their face to the sky, hands clasped in prayer. Others meditate, willing the universe to speak. Some turn to hypotheses and research; some simply ask those they know.

But no matter how we chose to ask the question, and no matter what the question may be, we all desire one thing: the answer.

Unfortunately for us, most of the questions we tend to ask cannot be answered simply, if at all. They typically require some sort of faith in the unknown.

I’m not talking the simple “What should I eat today?” or “Does this dress look good on me?”. Those types of questions are not likely to rip apart the very fabric of society, or destroy the figment of our imagination we call “reality”.

No, those questions matter, but they don’t REALLY matter.

I’ve spent many years in therapy, meditation, universe-searching, but the answers to my biggest question always come back the same: there isn’t one.

As someone who excelled in school, who reads for fun and learns something new every single day, not being able to formulate an answer can be… irritating, annoying, soul-crushing, etc.

But, when we take a moment to think about life, to think about if the answers to those questions are actually necessary, we may start to see that it’s actually better that we DON’T know those answers.

For example, I’ve heard a lot of people ask “what is my purpose in life?” Sure, if you’re meant to be a doctor, lawyer, or something else that makes good money, you may be pretty happy about hearing the news. BUT, what if your purpose was to die at 17 and your heart be given to someone else who needs a transplant?

Would you feel the same?

All I’m saying is that while it’s okay, and totally natural to question, we need to become much more comfortable as a species with not knowing the answer, and being okay with that.
